Driver Applicant Pre-Hire Company Requirements
Section 1 – Driver Applicant Pre-Hire Requirements
- Must meet or exceed all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and requirements not limited to but to include prescribed controlled substance regulations, FMCSR Title 49 – section 391.81 thru 391.123, included in this section.
- Must complete an employment application. Complete all the requested information to the best of your knowledge. An incomplete application will not be accepted. Falsifying any information on an application will result in immediate disqualification.
- Must have only one valid CDL in the state of residence. State of residence being the state in which you file income taxes.
- Must have no serious traffic violations in the last three (3) years.
- Reckless/careless driving.
- Driving while intoxicated or under influence
- Hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident.
- Any major violation within the past 36 months. See major violation, Appendix A.
- A major violation within the past 36 months plus any additional moving violation and/or accident.
- No current license suspension/revocation. A work permit is not acceptable.
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- No preventable accidents involving bodily injury or damage to property.
- No more than two (2) accidents within the past 36 months.
- One year verifiable “over-the-road” experience in the operation of tractor/trailer equipment. Construction vehicles not accepted.
- At least 23 years old.
D.O.T. Physical Qualification Requirements
Section 2 – All applicants must meet the D.O.T. qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41, and must be physically able, with or with out accommodation to perform the following:
- Operate and remain alert while driving a commercial vehicle for periods of up to 11 hours.
- Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1 pound to 125 pounds of varying size and shape, a distance of up to 53 feet for extended periods of time with or without a mechanical device. This function could precede or follow as much as 11 hours of driving.
- Frequently reach freight at waist level and occasionally reach for freight above shoulder height or below waist level.
- Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
- Frequently squat or crouch to handle and position freight.
- Climb in and out of an over-the-road tractor, 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times per day with the assistance of various configurations of steps and handholds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of tractor and trailer.
- Be able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower and raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release lever, lock and release pintle-hooks, fuel vehicles and check engine oil and coolant levels, perform preventive maintenance.
- Must be able to spend at least 5% of the day standing and 5% of the day walking on surfaces such as wood, metal and concrete. Surfaces may sometimes be slippery or wet.
- Must be able to occasionally reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck.
